HONORS ENTRANCE CRITERIA FOR
STUDENTS ENTERING GRADE 9
Level Placement Procedures:
Mid-Year: The Student Information System will calculate a third marking period average that includes three marking period grades. Students may enroll in an honors course if they meet one of the following criteria:
·A final average grade of A- or better in the currently enrolled course.
(A final average grade of B or better for students currently enrolled in geometry.)
End of Year: If a student is not eligible for an honors course at the end of the 3rd marking period but does become eligible by the time the final grade is submitted, that student must initiate a request through their high school counselor for a level change. Students will not automatically be moved into an honors course if they become eligible by the time the final grade is submitted; a request must be submitted to their high school counselor. Students who lose honors grade requirement eligibility will automatically be dropped from the honors course. Updated students’ schedules will be posted on the Home Access Center prior to the first day of school.
*Please Note: For the 2010-2011 school year, four marking periods of an A- or better in the currently enrolled course will be required for honors entrance. Four marking periods with a B or better will be required for students currently enrolled in geometry.
CRITERIA FOR APPEAL
Due to extenuating circumstances, if a student misses the eligibility grade requirement, that student can file an honors appeal that would be considered in the scheduling decision. Appeals must be submitted to their William Annin guidance counselor by June 1st. Honors appeal forms are available in the William Annin guidance office beginning on April 20th. The Curriculum Supervisor will make decisions regarding appeals by June 25th. Students will be notified in writing of the appeal decision by June 29th, and will be able to access the schedule on the Home Access Center prior to the first day of school.
The decision to grant the appeal will be based on the following criteria:
-
Standardized Test Scores
-

-
Teacher’s consultation on academic performance
-
Student’s attendance/discipline record
-
