Third Grade is so much fun! In Math, some topics learned are patterns, facts, time, money, measurement, and solving number stories. Manipulatives are used and exciting math games are played to reinforce what is being learned. In Language Arts, literature based novels as well as an anthology series are used for reading. In Writing, a writing workshop approach is used to create a portfolio of different writing such as friendly letter, fiction, fantasy, expository, biography, and more.    Five themes that third graders learn about throughout the year are Communities, Inventors/Inventions, Multicultural Cinderella, Endangered Species, and a Roald Dahl Author Study. In Science, we have four units throughout the year. Ponds, Lakes, Rivers, and Streams, Weather, Force and Motion, and Wings and Rockets are the topics. Two of these units include tiered lessons and projects to challenge all learners at their individual level. The field trips in grade three are great! One trip that enhances our curriculum is a trip to Southard Park to explore the pond ecosystem firsthand. We also visit the Hunterdon Historical Museum as part of our Communities study.
