Music
|
Mount Prospect School has a very strong music program. The department consists of three teachers, Ms. Kate Whiteley (Band Director,) Ms. Kathy Kowalewski (Orchestra Director,) and Ms. Michelle Kagel (General Music Teacher and Choral Director.) Our music facilities include posture chairs, two digital keyboards, and an acoustic piano.

The instrumental classroom holds instrumental lessons, band rehearsals, and orchestral rehearsals for students in grades three, four, and five. In addition, third through fifth grade students have the choice of learning one of the string instruments. Students who are in grades four and five can choose from one of the many band instruments which they may rent or buy. The students perform in programs throughout the year, including winter and spring concerts.

On the stage, you can hear students singing all day long in the vocal music room. The Third Grade Chorus and the Fourth/Fifth Grade Chorus each rehearse once a week before school. The chorus students perform with the instrumental students in concerts each winter and spring. All of the students of Mount Prospect School visit the music room each week during the school day for their general music class. In class, musical activities are geared towards teaching the students music literacy, music history, music appreciation, and the personal enjoyment of music. The students learn many songs, play musical games, dance, perform on classroom instruments, and learn about a "composer of the month." |
