Liberty Corner School Receives
2007 PEACE Grant
from the United Way of Somerset County
Liberty Corner School is honored to receive the PEACE Grant in the denomination of $500 from the United Way of Somerset County. The United Way was recognizing schools/organizations, which are actively engaged in a community service-learning project. LCS was specifically recognized for the role it played in the Appalachian Toy Drive as well as for its "One Book, Book Club".
Last year at LCS, we began a Character Education initiative we refer to as the "One Book, Book Club". Through this endeavor, classroom teachers receive one picture book a month which deals with the various character education pillars associated with our curriculum. The books prompt classroom discussions about the virtue and integrity of characters encountered in the literature.
Our 2007 Appalachian Toy Drive, which provided 63 bags full of toys and other necessary items to children, was a huge success this year. LCS was recognized as being the single largest donor to the cause.
