Art in the Bernards Township Elementary Schools
Mrs. Regina DeFrancisco
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”
Pablo Picasso Art in the Bernards Township Schools provides opportunities for students to develop an appreciation of the visual world and what it offers to enrich their lives.
Projects are a reflection of the children’s interests, their world, and the subjects they are studying in their classrooms. Opportunities are also presented for children to look at the art of other children and the art of professional artists.
As required by the state of New Jersey, Art provides the students with learning opportunities in Art History, Criticism, Aesthetics and Production. Creativity is encouraged including originality, flexibility, fluency, being independent, constructive, and curious.
While doing all of the above, the children are encouraged to enjoy their uniqueness and explore ideas and processes. Each elementary school displays its’ art work in small changing exhibits throughout the year in the schools and at locations outside the school. A building-wide exhibit in the spring exhibits at least one piece of artwork from each child.
