Bernards Township Policy on Fee Waivers through College Board

BoardSubjects Offered 2012:

Beginning in May 2012, Ridge High School will not administer Advanced Placement exams for subjects not taught in the district. This is due to insufficient testing facilities and a continual shortage of proctors. Additionally, students who are not residents of Bernards Township will not be permitted to test at Ridge High School.

Students who wish to take AP exams in other subject areas may contact College Board’s AP Services (877-274-6474) for a list of local high schools that may offer the exams.

Late Testing 2012:

College Board specifies the exact days and times that exams can be offered during regular and late administration periods. In 2012, one of the late testing days is Friday, May 25, 2012. Because there is no school for students in Bernards Township on that date, we are unable to offer late AP exams for the following exams:

AP Biology
AP English Literature and Composition
AP Italian Language and Culture
AP Latin: Vergil

AP Physics B
AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism
AP Physics C: Mechanics
AP Psychology

We cannot accommodate students who are absent the day of the regularly-scheduled test, even with a doctor’s note. Students who need to arrange late testing for any of the above exams for any reason may contact College Board’s AP Services (877-274-6474) for a list of local high schools that may be willing to accommodate them (fees may apply).

Again, only the subjects listed above are affected by the school closure on May 25.

Registration:

Only residents of Bernards Township may test at Ridge High School.  Registration information and instructions will be mailed home and posted on January 9th.  Please note that the Ridge High School dates and deadlines for AP Registration will be earlier than those generally posted by College Board so that we may plan for facilities and proctors accordingly.

The Cancellation Policy:

All cancellations will be processed through the Guidance Office; cancellations cannot be done online.  From March 5, 2012 through the end of the school day on March 29, 2012, the refund will be $50.00 per test.  From March 30, 2012 until the end of AP Testing, exams may be cancelled, but there will not be any refund. This includes any student who is absent for any reason at the time of the exam.  There will be no exceptions to this policy.

Pre-Gridding Session:

There will be a mandatory pre-gridding session for all students registered to take AP exams at Ridge High School:  April 18th, period 2 (last names A-L), and period 3 (last names M-Z).

Dates, Times & Locations:

Testing and exam dates are not flexible. These are set by The Educational Testing Service and College Board, not by Ridge High School. Make-up exams will only be allowed for approved reasons by the College Board.  If you are ill, you must have a legitimate doctor’s note in order to make up the exam.  For a morning exam, students must report to the specified testing room by 7:30 am. For an afternoon exam, students must report by 11:30 am.  All exams will be administered at Ridge High School; specific locations will be posted on the Guidance Web site and on the bulletin board outside the cafeteria after Spring Break.

Lunches:

Students with an AM exam only may take lunch after exam (proctor will let you know when you’re expected in class).  Students with a PM exam only may take lunch 5th period.  Students with both an AM and PM exam will only have a 10 minute break between exams to eat and should bring a bagged lunch.

Attendance Policy:

Students are expected to attend classes when not taking an AP test.  Absences from class during the morning or afternoon surrounding your AP test are chargeable, and the attendance office must be notified PRIOR to the absence. Calls and notes "after the fact" will not be accepted; those absences will be considered cuts.  Be sure to allow ample time to sign in with attendance before the 11:30 reporting time to the testing room. Students who arrive even a few minutes late will not be permitted to take the exam.

What to Bring:

Students are to bring their own calculators, batteries, and at least two sharpened #2 pencils.  They will also need their AP Student Pack, which they received during the Pre-Gridding session. Refer to the AP Bulletin or College Board Web site for a complete list of necessary items on exam day.

What NOT to Bring:

There are no cell phones, food, or drinks allowed in the testing room. A student found with a cell phone will be prohibited from continuing to test and the test will be voided. Refer to the AP Bulletin or College Board Web site for a complete list of prohibited items on exam day.

Late Exams:

No late exams will be given on May 25, 2012, as school is not in session.
