Activities from National Geographic

Here you can find plenty of activities to keep you busy. Build your own miniature Egyptian tomb. Or craft spiderwebs and make your house ancient and unexplored. There are also science experiments you can try at home. And sugary recipes are suitable for little readers.

The Art Zone (www.nga.gov/kids/zone). The Art Zone has a handful of games sponsored by the National Gallery of Art. Some are mixed with information from the Gallery or from art history. Collage Machine lets you create a collage from over 100 unique pieces. The games get a bit more high-tech with Cubits. Cubits lets you create your own 3-D sculpture from cubes. You can compare yours to the real sculpture that inspired the game. The site also offers other 3-D graphics games, as well as a traditional paint program.

The Quest (http://pbskids.org/cyberchase/quest). In The Quest, you enter Cyberspace to stop a villain named Hacker. Your mentor, Motherboard, sends you on different quests to secure Cyberspace. The first quest has you defending Motherboard from Hacker's bugs. You have to collect parts around the city to upgrade her computer. Along the way you'll also encounter Hacker's henchmen, Buzz and Delete. This game achieves the seemingly impossible task of making computer security fun. It also happens to have some simple math puzzles. It's all really well done with cartoon-like animation.

This site's not obvious unless you get the magazine. There are lots of games here, and they're free. Race motorcycles, shoot some hoops or do some killer skateboard tricks. You can find dozens of sports-themed games to try.

Yu-Gi-Oh! fun from Kids' WB

There's bound to be at least one Yu-Gi-Oh! fanatic in the house. There are clips here from hundreds of episodes. You can watch your favorite duels to satisfy you between Yu-Gi-Oh! episodes.

Time isn't just about world news and social issues. They've got some great games for kids. Most of them manage to sneak in brain-boosting facts. There are lots of animated trivia games and quizzes. You can also build your own Time magazine cover. You pick the photos and make the headlines.

Dinosaur fun from the Jurassic Park Institute

This site is as enormous as dinosaurs! Learn about the dinosaurs you've seen in the movies with the Dinopedia. Then head over to the Dino Lab. You can help the researchers study dinosaur eggs. If you need a break, there's good Dinotainment available. You'll discover games, puzzles and activity ideas.

Legos may be expensive, but the Lego games here are free! They've got sports, Clikits girl and Bionicle games. There are more than 20 games to choose from here. Lego offers even more if you join the Lego Club for free.

Here you can get all sorts of goodies from your favorite shows. See Batman, Scooby-Doo, Yu-Gi-Oh! and other great stars. Watch video clips, look through photo galleries or play some games. You can even send e-cards to tell your friends where you've been.

Activities from Star Wars

There are one-of-a-kind games and activities aplenty here. One challenges you to match Star Wars music to the right movie scene. Another gives neat facts like where E.T. characters make an appearance. You can play a part in the Clone Wars as Obi-Wan Kenobi or Anakin Skywalker. Children can also be introduced to the older Star Wars films.

PBS Kids Go!
Listen to tunes from an African thumb piano or play one yourself. Then play "About Face," a game for younger kids that helps with understanding other people's feelings. There are over a hundred games to choose from! Older kids will enjoy "It's My Life," which features the coolest TV shows and music. And check out "Don't Buy It." You'll find articles that teach how to be smart with money. Kids can also learn the purpose of advertising, and how to develop some healthy skepticism.

WhizzBall
WhizzBall lets you build wacky 3-D contraptions out of springs, tubes, catapults and rollers. The idea is to build an outrageous path for a little metal ball that will be set rolling through your invention. If you can lead the ball to the finishing bull's-eye, your points will start climbing. You can even upload your creations for other kids to try out.

National Geographic Kids
Here is a massive collection of brain teasers, quizzes and games. Be sure to check out Back Talk. You pick a funny photo and then make your own story for it. Then become a penguin in "Save the Egg," the game based on March of the Penguins.

CIA for Kids
Who knew the CIA could have fun? Live like an agent by working puzzles and cracking codes. Then take a tour of CIA headquarters with Ginger the bear. Older kids can test their knowledge of the U.S.A.

Valentine's Day with Kodak
Learn how to make an adorable photo Valentines with simple instructions that most children will understand. There are great photo craft ideas for every occasion, from collages to baseball cards. The kids might pick one to surprise you!
